Jamaica's brilliant London preview!

It was not London, but we watched Olympic excellence at Jamaica's National Stadium last night.  We shouted, stomped and cheered as we watched a galaxy of Jamaican stars running their hearts out to represent our beloved country at the London Olympics.

Here are the stars and their times yesterday - photos and reports from the Gleaner and Observer websites - www.jamaica-gleaner.com and www.jamaicaobserver.com.

  1. Yohan Blake - 9.75 seconds(s)
  2. Usain Bolt - 9.86 s
  3. Asafa Powell - 9.88 s
1. Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce - 10.70 secs -  national record.
2. Veronica Campbell-Brown - 10.82 s
3. Kerron Stewart 10.94 s

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce
"SHELLY-ANN Fraser Pryce's majestic National Record of 10.70 seconds, set while winning the 100m title at the JAAA/Supreme Ventures National senior championships at the National Stadium on Friday night, has vaulted her further up into the pantheons of the best ever to have run the event.
In lowering her personal best from the previous 10.73 seconds, the pint-sized rocket vaulted France’s Christine Aaron, into fourth place behind three Americans.
The late Florence Griffith Joyner (Flo Jo) leads the pack with her World Record 10.49 seconds followed by Carmelita Jeter’s 10.64 seconds and Marion Jones’ 10.65 seconds set at altitude in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1998."
Yohan Blake

"NEW Jamaican senior men’s 100m champion Yohan Blake, says he is “over the moon” with his win and new personal best 9.75 seconds set on Friday’s second day of the JAAA/Supreme Ventures National Senior Championships after he got the best of a crack field including training partner and World Record holder Usain Bolt.

"Oh my God, I am over the moon," he said as he erased Bolt’s previous stadium record 9.76 seconds and said his training partner had been encouraging him over the years.
“Usain Bolt has been motivating me and telling me I can do it” he said."

Bolt in Beijing (China Daily)
From André Lowe, Senior Staff Reporter - Gleaner:

"THE TRACK and field world was treated to a feast of fine sprinting as World champion Yohan Blake continued to rubber-stamp his threat to 100m dominance while Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce showed her class to take the women's equivalent at the JAAA/Supreme Ventures Limited National Senior Championships.
Usain Bolt is not used to standing on the silver medal podium, but that's exactly where he was during the 100m medal ceremony last night inside the National Stadium, as Blake produced the run of his life, to win in a stadium-record 9.75 and, in the process, hand his training partner his first-ever 100m loss in Jamaica. Blake's time was also a new personal best and the fastest time recorded this year.
Media representatives were denied the opportunity to speak to Blake, who is expected to also feature in today's 200m rounds but Bolt, who, like he has been throughout these trials, was left in the blocks, described the eventualities as "one of those things".
"For me to get left in the blocks was really bad, but it's just one of those things," said a disappointed Bolt, who was clocked at 9.86. "In the semi-finals, the lane seven guy moved and it threw me off and I kept seeing him in my peripheral, so that threw me off.
"In the final, I got left and in a quality field like this, it is difficult to get back," Bolt added.

Impressive run from Powell
Asafa Powell, 9.88, who came into the day with a groin issue and complained that it was sore after his semi-final two hours before the final, produced an impressive run to finish in third place and secure the final individual spot to the Olympic Games. Powell had to receive medical attention after the race and was also unavailable for comment.
Fraser-Pryce showed that her finish is just as good as her start, leading from start to finish in the female event with a blistering 10.70 - a national record.
Veronica Campbell-Brown
Veronica Campbell-Brown was second in 10.82, with Kerron Stewart third in 10.94.
Fraser-Pryce was ecstatic that she was able to break the national record in front of her home support.
"I have to thank God and my coach (Stephen Francis); what a phenomenal person he is, he believes in us even when we don't believe in ourselves, and I am excited about breaking the national record here in Jamaica. That is something I am excited about," said Fraser-Pryce."

JACKSON 5 BACK TOGETHER - UNITY TOUR 2012...without Michael though!

Though, Jackie, Tito, Jermaine and Marlon may be the Jacksons that'll be performing onstage in their just-launched “Unity Tour 2012″...they still say, MICHAEL will definitely be stealing the show as usual.
On "Good Morning America show Tito said:
“He’s on stage with us in spirit as well,”
“It’s very emotional.
30 years after the brothers went separate ways with their careers, they are back, playing to packed houses on their just-launched “Unity” tour that will take them to more than 20 cities across North America this summer.
Jermaine told GMA:
“What brought us back together was time and the fans.”
“It’s the music that gets us going.”
of Michael? Jermaine said:
“It’s very hard.”
“You’re singing these songs and all of a sudden something hits you.”
The reunion marks the first time all four brothers have toured together since their 1985 “Victory Tour.”  Their set includes hits that led them to become the first group ever to have their first four singles hit number 1 on the Billboard Charts, songs like “ABC” and “I Want You Back,” songs they’ve had to adapt in Michael’s absence.
Jackie had this to say,
“No one can take Michael’s part but we’re doing a great job.”
“We’re all sharing parts together.”
Marlon said:
“This was our launching pad,”
“We used to come to amateur night at the Apollo and try to make a name for ourselves.  So we wanted to come and give something back.”
And as it relates to what Beyonce wrote to Michael Jackson
“She’s incredible,”  Jermaine said “It’s a great feeling because we worked so hard. Our whole thing was to work hard and to achieve and I guess it shows. We’re very happy that people have admired and loved the things we’ve done over the years.”
“We thank our parents,” said Marlon.  “Our parents saw that we could entertain and know that we had enjoyed it so they made sure that we stuck with it and this was the outcome.”
” My whole thing is you’re a child,” said Marlon, echoing comments made by Janet Jackson, who publicly advised her niece to wait to start a career in show business.  ” Enjoy your childhood and once you become an adult you’ll be an adult for the rest of your life, so enjoy your childhood. ”
Great advice!

WHAT RIHANNA SAID ABOUT INSTAGRAM'S OUTAGE

Do we need to say more?

WHY INSTAGRAM WAS DOWN

The message instagram offered

The excuse that was up later

Well, the storm that hit Virginia was to blame for the outage. Why?

Instagram servers are housed in Amazon's Elastic Compute Cloud in North Virginia and there was a major thunderstorm that caused an outage in the area.

Well, we hope the social network's back for good.

WILL DRAKE & CHRIS BROWN TAKE THE $10MILLION USD TO SETTLE THEIR DIFFERENCES IN THE BOXING RING?

If Chris Brown and Drake agree to settle their differences in a boxing ring, then the money offered is $10Million USD...whoever wins gets $9million and the loser can make do with the remaining $1MillionUSD.

Celebrity Boxing Federation owner, Damon Feldman and Alki David, a wealthy entrepreneur, originally offered $1 million for the fight, but the two realized that wouldn't be enough.

In Aki's words:

"The audience needs their imagination captured as much as the fighters do. These are two very important rap artists who will only do this for a big ticket number."

"This is something that should be attractive enough to get them in the ring."

Will the duo take the offer? Your guess' as good as ours.

FRENCH COACH DUMPS FRANCE - EURO 2012 FALL-OUT

France's soccer coach has refused to renew his contract as the coach of France...will he be heading to Tottenham?
France's football governing body FFF has confirmed his refusal today, 30th June, 2012.

SERENA WILLIAMS STRUGGLES AGAINST 25TH SEED JIE ZHENG!

First out on Centre Court and hoping for a relatively straightforward afternoon's work, Four time Wimbledon champ, Serena Williams was forced to an energy-sapping struggle that saw her serve to stay in the contest on no less than three occasions and eventually winning with a 6-7(5) 6-2 9-7 victory.
The sixth seed needed three match points to finally put her Chinese opponent to bed, rushing to the net and turning home and athletic volley to win the contest in two hours and 28 minutes.
The second set aside, it was a brutally close contest, with neither player faltering until the very end. Zheng was so comfortable, that game eventually edged the tiebreak to put her more vaunted opponent on the back foot.
Thrust into action Williams bullied her way through the second set to level matters, but the third set did not follow that script - as Williams twice had to serve to stay in the contest at 4-5 and 5-6. That she managed to do and, in truth, Zheng was finding it tougher and tougher to hold - with the pressure finally telling as she faltered at 7-7.
Though Williams wasted two match point opportunities before finally getting the job done.
Williams will now face Yaroslava Shvedova, who defeated 10th seed Sara Errani in an historic match, whose match was most notable for the first set, which saw Shvedova win every single point on the way to clinching it. It is the first time that has ever happened either at Wimbledon or in the women's game, and only the second time it has ever occurred in the professional era.

WHY LADIES WON'T DATE YOU!!!

A recent survey by the dating service has shown the main reason why ladies would not date men. tagged "It's Just Lunch" found that there's one box in particular that straight women want checked: they want the men they date to have jobs.
925 single women were surveyed, 75 percent said they'd have a problem with dating someone without a job. Only 4 percent of respondents asked whether they would go out with an unemployed man answered "of course."
Irene laCota spokesperson for It's Just Lunch said
"This is the rare area, compared to other topics we've done surveys on, where women's old-fashioned beliefs about sex roles seem to apply."
The women interviewed for the press release didn't mention anything about conforming to traditional gender roles when asked to explain the results. Instead, they said they were concerned that they might end up having to support an unemployed man. They also said they didn't want their own activities to be limited by someone else's job status and potential financial limitations.
One women quoted in the press release reflected that a job was a sign that a man was involved in something, which could indicate a desire for a partner who is active and purposeful, rather than one who would take on the traditional role of the sole breadwinner.
The survey numbers could be misleading. 42 percent of the women of counted in that 75 percent camp saying no to unemployed men actually said they might go out on a date with a guy who doesn't have a job: they just probably wouldn't want to date him long-term unless he had some have some sort of plan to secure one eventually. Sounds reasonable enough, argued Cassie Murdoch of Jezebel
Still, the new survey joins an existing body of research indicating that women do want a man with some financial resources. One oft-cited study out of the U.K. in 2011 found that women today care more about a man's income and level of education than they did in the 1940s. Another study published last year found thatGerman women increasingly look for men with salaries similar to their own. The reason, again, wasn't that the women wanted a man to take care of them. Instead participants reported that they wanted a mate with equal earning power to avoid the conflict they foresaw arising if their male partners felt insecure about them earning more.
If you are a man and want a date, long term or not, having a job's an amazing plus!

USAIN BOLT BEATEN AGAIN!!!

Blake - the beast - beats Usain Bolt

Usain Bolt beaten by USA's Tyson Gay

iIt was the Jamaican olympic trials and just like he did before, World's fastest man went down...call it a terrible flop at the blocks, but with Blake - the man known as the beast - winning the race in a time of 09:75 seconds?
Blake shouted:
“Nine-point-seven-five - it's awesome,''
“I won the world championship, so I've got that. Now, I'm the national champion for Jamaica, so I've got that. And now, I go into the Olympics like this.”
Blake is the reigning world champion but Bolt didn't run that night in South Korea after being disqualified for a false start.
This was their first rematch - their first ever real race since.
Bolt was considered the favourite, not only because of his world record - 9.58 seconds - but because Blake, his training partner had never run below 9.84 in his life. Now he has. The 9.75 seconds goes down as the best time this year and also breaks the four-year-old National Stadium record; both marks were 9.76 - both held by Bolt.
Always the toughest part of the race for the 1.93m defending Olympic champion, Bolt lumbered out of the blocks this time and had to make up heavy ground simply to get in the mix.
Usain Bolt said afterwards that someone near the start line was bothering him, beginning with the semi-finals, where he also made a bad start.
In Bolt's words:
“I had to ignore it,”
“I had trouble getting out, but I kept feeling like I could not give up.''
Asafa Powell is the 3rd Jamaican to make it to the Olympics, after finishing in 9.88.
In the women's 100m, defending Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce won in a Jamaican record 10.70 seconds, with Veronica Campbell-Brown in second and Kerron Stewart in third.
Campbell-Brown provided the surprise at last year's trials when she finished fourth in the final and didn't make the 100m field.
She ended up winning the 200m at trials and the Olympics and is very much in line for a double this time, as well.
"I don't like to go back in the past,'' Campbell-Brown said. "I'm just thankful for what I have today. I got my spot in the 100m. I'm happy for that.''
According to Blake and Bolt's coach Glen Mills,
"Blake came into this race in far better shape than Bolt".
“We're right where we want to be, going into London,''
“We just want to keep them healthy. That's the key.'' Mills concluded.
But there are two more days of racing left. It starts tonight with heats in the 200m, the race Bolt has always considered more his “job”, while the 100m is more like a hobby.
It was widely believed Blake might provide a better challenge to Bolt in the 200m because he holds the world's second-fastest time at 19.26. Bolt's record is 19.19. The 200m final is scheduled sunday 1st july 2012.

LEBRON JAMES: "HOW I PROPOSED TO MY HIGH SCHOOL SWEET HEART"

Oprah's "next Chapter" plays host to NBA superstar LeBron James will appear this and in a preview clip, James tells the host about the lead up to his proposal to his high school sweetheart, Savannah Brinson.
"I was nervous. It felt like before a finals game," James told Oprah.
"I didn't want her to bump up against me and felt [sic] the ring." James also added.
Brinson got the greatest New year gift when James proposed to her at a New Year's Eve celebration last year and, just like for a finals game, he asked his teammates to help him prepare for the big moment...And guess who held the engagement ring till the last minute? James' fellow Miami Heat star Dwayne Wade held the $300,000 engagement ring that James planned to give to Brinson.
Brinson said "yes" to the proposal and flaunted her sparkler at a Heat game after the New Year. Though James and Brinson have yet to announce a date for their wedding and have two sons Bryce and Lebron Jr...we wish the pair the best.

MAN DIES IN COURT AFTER BEING SENTENCED TO 16 YEARS IN PRISON

53 year old Michael Marin was an Ex Wall street trader until he was found culpable in a fire incidence. He was found guilty in a Phoenix-area courtroom Thursday of setting his mansion on fire in a ploy to escape his mortgage debt...in a twist of fate he appeared to put something into his mouth, suffered a seizure and died.

Police are now investigating whether he purposefully killed himself. Shortly after the jury read its verdict and sentenced him to 16 years in prison, Marin appeared to place something in his mouth several times and drink from a bottle he brought with him into the courtroom. Minutes later, he suffered from a seizure and died. Police can't yet confirm whether Marin’s death was a suicide.
In 2009, Michael Marin’s mansion in a ritzy Phoenix neighborhood caught fire, Marin claimed he had to escape from the house wearing a scuba tank and mask to protect himself from the smoke, but investigators found evidence that he set the fire himself.
He'd been living an extravagant lifestyle that reportedly included owning Picasso sketches and $800 climbing boots, Marin’s financial situation grew dire the year before the fire.
The Arizona Republic claimed his bank account balance fell to only $50 from $900,000 even while he had a monthly mortgage payment of more than $17,000.
With suicides becoming a common recurrence among small-business owners and entrepreneurs coping with financial crisis in countries like Greece and Italy, according to... The phenomenon has become so widespread that some European newspapers are calling it “suicide by economic crisis.”
Whatever the police eventually comes out with this might not be the last of suicides if people's finances does not determine the kind of lifestyles they live.

LAURYN HILL MIGHT SPEND 3YEARS IN PRISON!

She has eight Grammys to her name, now will she add 3years imprisonment to this?
Singer Lauryn Hill pleaded guilty Friday to not paying federal taxes on more than $1.5 million earned over three years.
Appearing in U.S. District Court in Newark, she admitted failing to file tax returns from 2005 to 2007. She faces a maximum one-year sentence on each of the three counts. She was charged three weeks ago.
Dressed in a dark jacket, white button-up shirt and a long reddish-orange skirt, Hill declined to comment after Friday’s hearing. During the hearing, attorney Nathan Hochman indicated that Hill planned to pay back the taxes she owes.
U.S. Magistrate Michael Shipp initially scheduled sentencing for early October but agreed to delay it until late November to give Hill time to make repayment.
Hill admitted she didn’t pay taxes on about $818,000 earned in 2005, $222,000 in 2006 and $761,000 in 2007. The money was earned by four corporations she owned.
The 37-year-old South Orange resident got her start with The Fugees and began her solo career in 1998 with the critically acclaimed album “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.”
She then largely disappeared from public view to raise her six children, five of whom she had with raggae legend Bob Marley's son, Rohan Marley.
Hill had earlier posted a long statement on her Tumblr page that decried pop culture’s “climate of hostility, false entitlement, manipulation, racial prejudice, sexism and ageism.” She explained that she hasn’t paid taxes since she withdrew from society to guarantee the safety and well-being of herself and her family.
Will she be seeing the inside of a prison wall? Time will tell.

HAVE YOU SEEN TRANSFORMERS "HOTTY" MEGAN FOX'S BABY BUMP?

Earlier this year, we informed you that Megan Fox was likely pregnant...well our assumption's been confirmed with Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green deciding to reveal their news to the world while celebrating their second wedding anniversary in Kona, Hawaii.

It's the same place Fox and Green got married back in 2010.

Dressed in a tiny bikini top and sheer flowing skirt Megan beamed with pride as Brian bent down to caress her burgeoning bump in front of the paparazzi.

Back in February Megan revealed to Cosmo that she wants "at least two, probably three [kids]" with her husband and added that she's "always been maternal.”

Now we can all clear our minds of the rumour...'cos it's all come out real!
